New Research: AI-Generated Code Can Contain Security Vulnerabilities
A new research study published on September 10, 2026 highlights potential security risks associated with AI-generated software code.
The researchers introduced LLMVul, a dataset containing 21,430 AI-generated C/C++ functions collected from real-world repositories. Among these functions, 1,540 were identified as vulnerable, showing that AI-generated code can potentially introduce security weaknesses into software projects.
The research highlights the importance of security testing, code review and vulnerability detection when developers use AI tools to generate or modify software code.
