HEC Shares Lists of Recognized and Unrecognized Universities Across Pakistan
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has shared lists of recognized and unrecognized higher education institutions, reminding students and parents to verify university recognition and campus status before applying for admission. The announcement was reported on 8 October 2026.
These lists are important for students planning undergraduate or postgraduate studies in Pakistan. Before submitting an application or paying admission fees, applicants should confirm that their chosen university or degree-awarding institution appears in HEC’s official records and that the specific campus is also recognized.
Four Official HEC Lists Students Should Check
HEC maintains separate records for different categories of higher education institutions. Students can consult the following official resources:
1. Recognized Universities and Degree-Awarding Institutions
Check whether the university or degree-awarding institution appears on HEC’s recognized list.

2. Recognized University Campuses
Recognition of a university does not automatically mean that every campus or branch is approved. Students should verify the exact campus where they intend to study.

3. Recognized Foreign-Collaboration Institutions
Students considering foreign university programmes offered through institutions in Pakistan should check the relevant HEC records.

4. Illegal, Fake and Unrecognized Institutions
Applicants should also consult HEC’s list of illegal, fake and unrecognized higher education institutions before making an admission decision.

Why Students Should Verify Recognition
Choosing a recognized institution and approved campus is an important step in protecting your educational investment. Enrolling without checking recognition status can create complications when seeking degree attestation, further education or professional opportunities.
Students should also verify the recognition status of their intended degree programme where applicable, particularly for postgraduate qualifications and programmes subject to additional regulatory requirements.
Important: Do not rely only on a university’s advertisements, social media posts or claims of affiliation. Consult HEC’s official website and confirm the status of the exact institution, campus and programme before enrolling.
