Punjab University and Weifang University Join Hands for New-Energy Cooperation
The University of the Punjab (PU), Weifang University of China and the New Energy Industry Association (NEIA) have signed a Letter of Intent to explore cooperation in new-energy education, training and research. The announcement was published on 8 October 2026 by Punjab University.
The collaboration aims to explore opportunities connecting higher education, industry and research to support Pakistan’s developing new-energy sector. The initiative highlights the importance of international academic partnerships in building technical expertise and preparing skilled graduates for emerging energy industries.
Key Areas of Cooperation
According to Punjab University’s official announcement, the proposed collaboration may cover several areas, including:
- Solar energy: Education and training in solar photovoltaic technologies.
- Energy storage: Battery systems and related technologies.
- Emerging technologies: Power electronics, electric mobility and charging infrastructure.
- Academic development: Curriculum development, faculty training and professional courses.
- Research collaboration: Joint research activities, seminars, workshops and conferences.
- Industry engagement: Potential internships, site visits, guest lectures and career guidance.
The three parties also intend to explore the feasibility of a collaborative undergraduate programme in new-energy engineering or technology. These are proposed areas of cooperation; the announcement does not confirm that a new degree programme has already been launched.
Why This Collaboration Matters
The partnership could help strengthen links between universities and industry while expanding opportunities for knowledge-sharing, applied research and technical training. As energy technologies continue to develop, cooperation in education and workforce preparation can contribute to building relevant skills for Pakistan’s future energy needs.
The initiative is also an example of international university collaboration focused on research and emerging technology fields.
