Punjab University Launches Human-Inspired AI Lab with Turkish Collaboration
The University of the Punjab (PU) has taken another step toward strengthening Artificial Intelligence research in Pakistan with the establishment of a new Human-Inspired Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at its Faculty of Computing & Information Technology (FCIT). The laboratory was officially inaugurated on 7 October 2026 and has been established through collaboration with TİKA and the Turkish Government. The initiative brings together higher education, international collaboration and emerging AI research with a particular focus on developing technologies around human-centered approaches to Artificial Intelligence. The new laboratory is focused on human-centered AI, an increasingly important area of Artificial Intelligence research that considers how AI systems can better understand, interact with and support people. Human-inspired approaches can draw on concepts related to human intelligence, learning, decision-making, behaviour and interaction when designing intelligent systems. Establishing a dedicated research facility at FCIT provides Punjab University with an institutional platform for researchers and students to explore these areas and contribute to the development of new AI applications.
The collaboration with TİKA and Turkey also adds an international dimension to the initiative. Partnerships between universities, research institutions and international organizations can help create opportunities for knowledge exchange, collaborative research and technology development.
